About the works and their stories
Every image begins with work by hand and a story. Discover the linocut process and the connections between the figures in the collection and their symbols.
What is a linocut?
A linocut is a printmaking technique in which an image is carved into linoleum by hand. The block is inked and printed onto paper using a press. Each print is made individually, and subtle differences are part of the process.
What is the difference between a Shaman and an Artifact?
A Shaman is a portrait of one of the collection’s eight figures, in a 60 × 80 cm format. An Artifact is a smaller, 20 × 30 cm linocut depicting a symbol connected to her story. Each Shaman has four associated Artifacts.
Can I choose an Artifact on its own?
Yes. Each Artifact is a standalone work. You can choose one motif, combine several prints or explore the complete group associated with a particular Shaman.
