“I don’t know who I am when no one needs me,” she confessed.

Erkinai led her to a hillside where the wind blew so fiercely it was hard to stand.
“Stand here and don’t move,” she instructed.

The woman tried, but each gust pushed her off balance.
“This is how you live,” said the shamaness. “Every wind moves you, because you’ve forgotten how to stand for yourself.”

Suddenly, a swallow cut through the sky, flying straight into the wind.
“She doesn’t wait for the wind to calm. She knows her wings exist to rise, no matter what.”
