Tallulah Totonka

falling waters

At the edge of the forest and river, where the morning mist tangled with the rustle of reeds, lived Tallulah Totonka – a shamaness who taught that everything in life breathes with the rhythm of nature. When people worked in harmony with that rhythm, the land fed them and the river sang.

But over time, they wanted more – to plow faster, harvest more, rest less. They cleared forests, dug up riverbanks, built dams, until the river began to fall silent and the fields began to wither.

Then they came to Tallulah, troubled, their faces pale from too many days without sleep or rain.

“We chased time until we no longer saw where we were going,” they said, ashamed.

The shamaness led them to the dry riverbed.

“Nature does not take,” she said. “It withdraws when you stop listening.”

She placed her hands in the cracked soil and closed her eyes.

The silence stretched long. Then, from deep within the earth, they heard a murmur. The water returned slowly, steady as breath.

“Now learn to breathe with it,” said Tallulah.

From that day on, the people lived more slowly. The legend of Tallulah Totonka endures as a reminder that life does not grow from greed, but from balance – the kind that lets it breathe.
